Epilogue

Jill put her finger on the elevator button, but she was hesitant. She wanted to breathe for a few seconds before she would take that step. The last two days had been very difficult and totally different way from everything that she had ever faced before.

Fortunately things in B.S.A.A. seemed calm as Jill could not work that day. If her head was already spinning with the latest news, to find out what Leon was doing got things even more complicated.

If she needed to describe those fifteen months next to Leon, she would have only good things to say. It's not that their relationship was perfect, but it was so good that it was bigger than any normal difficulty they could have. The two were friends, partners, lovers.

Everything was perfect within small imperfections, except from a small detail; distance. Jill and Leon still had some conflicts involving the distance, but not the distance caused by the days on mission but by the distance between their apartments. A big city distance issue.

Leon often arrived from a mission anxious to find Jill in his apartment, but many of those times he could not see his dream come true. In days of chaos in the BSAA, Jill could not leave her office before 10 p.m., which usually prevented her to go to his apartment when she still had plenty of work to be done in the next morning. Although they lived in the same city, the long journey would be too exhausting for both in busy days. For this reason they always decided to wait until the next day.

It always seemed to bother Leon much more than Jill. She seemed to accept these difficulties, but Leon complained about that distance sometimes. Frequently, he even understood it, but after a week away from home, he needed to get home and find his sweet caress from her.

The breaks between missions allowed Leon to come over to Jill more often than she could go to him. He used to stay about fifteen days in her house, making his reports and solving issues through his phone.

For over a year this distance seemed just to bother him, but for the past two weeks, Jill realized that it had turned into a problem. Leon looked very tense and sometimes even angry. He was quiet, something that rarely happened. It was so strange and so disturbing that Jill was tense all these days. She asked him about it, but he always said it was because of work.

But Jill felt different, she felt he was tense about their relationship. Jill never expected this to be a fairy tale, that they would get married and live in a house in the countryside with lots of children running in the garden. That was a real story with real bases and with a firm roof over their heads that prevented them from dreaming too high.

But even though they didn't have very big plans about wedding or romance, Jill had always believed that Leon was as happy as she was. And knowing now that it could not be true was difficult for her. But Jill had remained strong these days and as Leon, she tried to show that everything was ok.

And despite these doubts, everything was going well until that morning. Knowing that there was no other alternative but to face the situation, she finally pressed the elevator button.

The latest news rolled in her head, she did not know what to make of it all. Breathing seemed difficult as she was afraid.

When she called to her apartment earlier to see if Leon had already arrived, the diarist answered it. The woman told her that the agent had already arrived and that he was in her room, packing.

Although for the diarist the agent was probably going on a trip, Jill knew he had arrived that afternoon in her apartment and his next mission was only in a week. So if he was packing, it was because he was probably leaving her. Considering his tension, there could be nothing else...

The news that she had in the morning plus the sad surprise that Leon was leaving got her stunned. She knew that her latest news would not make any difference, she could only face it strongly.

The elevator then stopped in her floor and Jill walked to the door, opening it. She slammed the door on someone's hand on the other side, she knew it was Leon. The diarist was gone by the time.

"Jill?"

"It's me" she tried to sound normal.

When their eyes met, Jill could not resist and looked down to his feet, where the bag was. Leon seemed confused or perhaps a bit frustrated at being caught in that situation which was so uncomfortable.

"I ... I thought you would come home later."

"Don't worry about me, we don't need to talk about that now if you don't want to..."

"No!" Leon practically screamed "It's not that!"

Leon dropped the bag strap, leaving it on the ground.

"Leon, I have noticed your tension these past days. I will not question anything now. I only ask you that we can talk another time about it to make everything clear, because we deserve it. But it doesn't have to be now, you can go."

"Jill?" He took her by the hand and led her to the sofa, making her sit down. "That's what you're thinking?"

"I do not know, it's all so confusing.I'm not in my best days. My mind is not thinking straight, I have many things in it."

"Forgive me." He nodded "I have not really been the best boyfriend, I'm reckless on being romantic, and this confusion is due to my last decision."

"Hmm?"

"I had to make a decision. These last few weeks have been very difficult imagining how you would react, that you could freak out. I had no alternative... Yeah, maybe I had an alternative... But... Well, anyway, it's not what you're thinking."

"So you're not leaving?"

"No, well, yes. But wait."

Jill shook her head in confusion and he continued.

"I do not want to push you away, I don't want to scare you away. I know we have said many times that we do not need to get married and we want to be boyfriend and girlfriend, lovers forever, but Jill, this situation has become difficult for me. I... well..."

Leon stood up and walked over to the suitcase, opening the zipper. When one side of it was open, some clothes fell on the floor, Leon's boxers and including Jill's panties and a dress.

She looked at him surprised and pleasantly startled. That little detail changed everything.

"I have prepared a weekend in the mountains for both of us. But my goal was to kidnap you from the B.S.A.A. in some hours. But I did not imagine that you would arrive earlier."

"Forgive me, I destroyed your surprise ... But there are worries in my head that would not let me work today."

"Don't worry. I understand that these days were difficult for us. I wanted to tell you about my decision during this weekend. But I will not be able to hold it anymore. Jill..."

Jill opened her eyes, she was relieved when she thought the trip was the decision, now Leon said he had something to say she was afraid again.

"Jill, let's move in together."

"What?" She asked automatically.

"No! Do not be alarmed, we don't need to get married. I sold my apartment and bought a new one downtown between our jobs, in the middle. Not too far away for both of us to work every day and we will have a place only ours. I assume I was a bit selfish in this decision because I dislike sleeping away from you. But do not fear, promise you'll at least think about it... Hey, wait, are you crying?"

"Oh Leon. I thought our relationship was being lost, that our time had finished and that we had stopped being who we are together. And there are so many things going on that I look like an insecure little girl, right? I don't even look like myself today."

"Hey... No, my love. Forgive me for being so tense these days but it was very difficult to find an ideal apartment, but specially to find courage to tell you, I was so afraid on how you would react...".

"I know I always say how much I love my apartment and my independence, Leon. But a relationship without sacrifice is not a relationship at all. And I really like being with you more than I love my apartment and all that independence..."

Leon relaxed his shoulders and threw up on the couch, demonstrating a genuine relief.

"Wow, I'm tons lighter now. We are already practically married, try to think that there won't be any big changes and it won't."

Although she was no longer crying, Jill was still teary-eyed and looked at him quietly.

"What was that? Are you still afraid?"

"It's just that it will be impossible not to think of this big change, because there is no escaping of it. It's about the news this morning..."

"Just do not think about it. We'll always be together, you and me."

"That's impossible, Leon, because things are no longer the same. There is another reason why I felt unsafe before, now we will not be just you and me."

"What are you trying to tell me?" He asked scared.

"That I'm pregnant."

Leon's facial expression went from terror to happiness in a few seconds. He stood up, taking Jill in his arms and running with her across the room."

"Jill, Jill. That's wonderful. A big change, but fantastic. How did you discover? Oh my God! I'll be a father!"

His happiness was eventually infecting her. As always she managed to think about that only in a rational way, about the responsibility ahead and about how she was afraid of his reaction, especially by the difficult time she thought they were facing. But the fearless Leon thought only of the gift and happiness of becoming a father.

"I do not feel anything, no symptoms, but during my routine exams this morning the doctor found out something strange and he wanted to make an ultrasound immediately. I have now been almost three months..."

Leon pulled Jill against his chest.

"You see. Remember our deal when we got together? In fact our deadline was just about the time that it would be just you and me. Now we are three."

"Hmm... Four."

"What?" Leon pushed her away, waiting for an answer.

"During the ultrasound the doctor concluded that we expect twins."

"Wow! Now I understand why with these big changes."

"Are you afraid now?" Jill asked sarcastically.

"Never...I'm not afraid of anything. And my role is now to strengthen you, as I understand now why you were so afraid, after all it's inside you that my strong and beautiful kids grow. Oh! My children, my children. It sounds so good."

"Leon, so many things to decide now... I'm lost." Jill smiled "What happens next?"

"The weekend in the mountains. We will have time to think about the apartment, the furniture, the babies' room and clothes, the babysitter..."

"Oh yes, please. Let's not think about it now. I just want your lap, feeling I'm not alone. I assume I need it now."

Leon sat on the couch and pulled Jill. She lay down and put her head on his lap.

"We've been through so much together and now we will pass by the most beautiful and important moment of our lives and I know, Jill, that as long as we know that we can find strength in each other, we will go through everything together."

"We will... By the way, I will sell my apartment. I think I need this step now. It is also a way to prove to myself and to you how much I trust in our love and that it will last."

"I feel honored, happy and extremely proud of you."

"No more than I do about you, to have you in my life Mr. Kennedy."

And so the two remained embraced for a long time until they finally felt ready to go on their weekend trip.

If you ask yourself if everything went right for them? The answer could still be that everything remained perfect within small imperfections. The conflicts were so small before so much complicity, love and so many good moments. But if conflicts exist, they do exactly because Leon and Jill were nothing but two human beings. Behind the guns, they were only two imperfect people who loved each other more than anything. And yes, that was enough to be happy.

I'm sorry for the delay, but I prefered to wait for the proper time to write this epilogue, since as I love this story, i thought it deserved to be special and I hope you guys liked it.

The decision to make the baby twins were a tribute to my Friend Mercenary Nemesis :D she used this before and we totally agree Leon and Jill would have cute twins :D

Well, hormones are magic, they made pregnant Jill vulnerable too, poor girl. :D

I hope u guys had fun during this jorney. You are the ones responsible for this story, cause thanks to all your support i always felt inspired to come back. Thank you all very much.

I wish you all a blessed 2016! May it be wonderful!
