Back to the road.

Leon slid his hand on the bed until he reached Jill's hand. He held her hand and stared at her, apparently thoughtful.

Jill gulped and sighed. Although she was feeling slightly dizzy to revisit her bitter memories, she started to feel better for having told Leon.

After a while looking at their tangled hands, Leon finally looked up. He had a curious expression on his face that made her anxious to know what he would say.

"I must confess" Leon said hesitantly before continuing "It affected me in some way. Mainly because I heard your name sometimes on different occasions during these years, maybe I remember I heard something about you being rescued. I remember that I was not in the country because I had several matters to attend elsewhere. It bugs me to realize that perhaps my life has made me a cold person. Strange how I never really questioned Claire about the rumors, although we don't talk frequently. Maybe I was considering you as just one of the many fighters who get hurt or die in service. By knowing you and your history now, I feel bad about that."

"Don't feel bad. Unfortunately we are trained to deal with death naturally and even in a cold way. We are trained to forget that the fighter who dies beside us is a person who had dreams, plans, feelings and relatives."

"Yes" Leon agreed, "I don't really know if it's nice..."

"Not good, but necessary."

"But that's not all. I must also confess that your memories are very painful and I believe that no one who hears that would be able to remain totally indifferent. I felt pain in every word you uttered, impossible not to put myself in your shoes or not to feel like going back in time to get you out of there."

Jill looked down at the bed, she knew tears would return to her eyes because of those words Leon said. But he put a hand to her chin, lifting her face gently and forcing her to look at him. Jill swallowed hard.

"But this happens only because I kind of got attached to you. And hold on, there is another feeling I have about you, that is bigger than the pain."

Jill raised her eyebrows, waiting for Leon to continued.

"Admiration. Be calm, I'm not thinking "Poor Jill" but "Bravo Jill". You've been fighting your memories and pain all these years. You didn't give up your part and you keep steadfast in the same ideal, doing the best you can. How many people would have fallen down, gone crazy or given up for good? You're still standing and now I know you. I know you can take another step ahead. You are strong, Valentine."

Jill felt like hugging him tightly in that instance. She wanted to put her head on his shoulder and cry. She felt in Leon a support she did not expect, but Jill heard from him everything she ever wanted to hear. This gave her even more strength and more desire to move on. Maybe even take a new step, which was returning to the field.

Chris always had helped her a lot, but Chris had become extremely protective after what happened and Jill could understand him, she knew that - that event was also traumatic for him. But that prevented Chris from encouraging her to go back to the field. Deep down she felt that after Africa, Chris started treating her the same way he treated Claire, trying to keep them both away from danger.

To meet someone like Leon, who had no direct links to the incident in Africa and could thus encourage her, free of trauma, was certainly even more important than the help she received from the psychologist. Specially because Jill heard it all from someone who was used to seeing the world in a similar way and someone who believed in her strength.

After a few seconds of looking at Leon, who was thoughtful, she resisted the urge to hug him and just put her hand on his. Jill then shook her head confidently.

"All right, partner. Thank you for trusting me."

"You don't have to thank me, Valentine" Leon smiled tenderly.

"So" Jill smiled sweetly before continuing "I think we need to talk to Quint, don't we?"

Jill and Leon giggled at the same time.

"Good, I will get our luggage, we need dry clothes. Unless you want to keep on wearing nothing. I confess it wouldn't bother me at all." He giggled again.

"Really? Interesting..."

"C'mon. The mission is over, I have another mission now."

Leon held her by the wrist and pulled her closer to him. She dropped the sheet and they were close to the point of feeling each other's breath again.

"Really? May I know what mission is it?" She smirked.

"The mission to find some gas station nearby and buy more protection. As I said, you were quite different the first time moving on to the second time. Then I need to check what awaits me the third time." he approached his face to her neck, kissing it as he spoke "I wonder what will happen the fourth time ... the fifth ... sixth ... until we go back to our city."

Jill felt the goose bumps and held the laughter as she brought her hands to his chest, pushing him gently away.

"All right, but do not make any plans, partner. The secret of a good partnership is doing each other's part correctly. And if I remember that well, your mission right now was to get dry clothes for both of us." Jill smirked

Leon released Jill and stood up quickly by the bed, still naked.

"Roger that." He saluted her before walking towards the door, leaving Jill laughing behind. "I'll go outside like this, hope I'm lucky in not finding any hungry bird on the way."

When Leon left completely, Jill opened her arms throwing herself on the bed. She was good, she was very happy. She did not know what was happening and she definitely knew she should not expect much from anyone. But deep down inside of her she wanted that moment to never end.

Jill was sitting on the stairs outside the door watching Leon, who was checking the car engineer. She ate the last two cookies concerned about Leon. He had eaten some, but she knew that those cookies were not enough to fill a man. They needed to leave that place and get to a coffee shop or restaurant urgently.

"Jill try to start the car, please." Leon said staring at her.

She put the cookie's empty package in her pocket and walked to the car, getting in and doing as Leon asked. On the first attempt the car worked.

Jill looked at him in surprise as he closed the hood. When Leon entered the car, sitting beside her, she asked:

"What happened?"

"Only a few battery wires came loose, as I suspected. But now that you are driving, we'll have good luck again."

Jill smiled and nodded before accelerating the car and leaving.

Both went silent for a few minutes, focused on the mobile signal. Suddenly several messages arrived at the same time in both apparatus and Jill stopped the car. They were notifications about several calls received, all from Quint in Jill's cellphone.

The two got out and Jill was about to call Quint when Leon's phone rang. He looked at the device and Jill thought it could be Quint, but Leon hung up the phone and told her to proceed.

Jill then took out her cell and called Quint, he answered right at the second call. She then put on speakerphone so Leon could hear that too.

"Jill? Thank God! I've been trying to reach you both ..."

"Calm down! We are alive despite the storm." She smiled at Leon.

"It is ... not only for that. We had a setback."

"Setback?" She asked curiously.

"Not really. Something that would make me feel as bad as when I discovered I had a crush on the traitor from FBC."

"Speak clearly, Quint."

"Why, my enthusiasm to have Hunnigan's phone didn't let me think right. I know I told you to take advantage of the holiday that the mission was over, but it apparently is not."

"Oh!" Jill opened her eyes and looked at Leon. "Why am I not surprised?"

"Yes, I know. But anyway, we discovered Lopez's credit card in the middle of Grant's things. He swears he didn't steal it. Then he told us Lopez had moved with his mother to town but we could not find him." Quint paused for breath.

"And now?" Leon asked next to Jill.

"Well, I tried to talk to you because I investigated about possible relatives in the city and there are a few, they told me that they haven't seen Lopez and his mother. And I also discovered that there is another house west of where you are. A house that Lopez used to rent for family vacations. Then maybe you could investigate it. It's not far away."

"Yes, we will." Jill said.

"Because Grant's arrested and the case is no longer secret for now, I'm sending a helicopter for you and an officer to bring the car back. If you prefer, wait for them to arrive."

"Ah" Jill laughed shortly and ironically" You know me, Quint. By thinking this case was solved, I spent a whole day sleeping. Do you think I'll be able to wait now? Time to catch up."

"Indeed Quint. Jill was having lots of fun in her holiday sleeping for hours in the mountains." Leon smiled provocative and Jill nudged him.

"All right. My fault. You decide the best thing to do, but you'll soon have backup."

Leon's mobile rang then he took a few steps behind answering it.

"Do you think there is any danger? Why are you sending a helicopter?" Jill asked.

"After I felt like a fool once again, I'd rather prevent it now, Jill. Anyways, if you don't find anything, you will return faster and help me solve everything from here."

"Understood." Jill shook her head as if Quint could see her. "We will contact you shortly."

"All right, Jill. See you."

Jill turned off the phone. It was not her intention, but she was able to hear Leon talk on the phone.

"I'm going to China? Couldn't be any more anxious." Then Leon was silent for a time before saying "I am alone in the mountains, enjoying my well-deserved vacation."

Since he walked away, Jill didn't want him to think she was listening to his conversation. So she got into the car and closed the door. She could hear Leon's voice, but she could not understand what he was saying. That kind of let her feel relief. She knew he could not say who he was with in that place, but somehow she felt kind of curious to know who he was talking to about that and about China.

A few seconds later Leon hung up the phone, got into the car and closed the door.

"Time to end this, partner?" He asked Jill.

"You don't even need to ask" she smiled at him and started the car, "ready to go back and take a new path to look for the second house."

Hiii guys!!!
I needed to add something about protection and I tried to make that in a cute way, so we know they are responsible in this point too. :)

This chapter was simple, but I hope it was not boring.

Thank you guys! Have a wonderful weekend!

What can we find behind the guns, beyond the missions and inside the hearts? Leon Scott Kennedy was more than an impressive and effective agent, but he forgot that after many years saving people's lives. That's when he needs to stop and think about himself, but will he keep his mind away from work when he has nothing else to do with his life? /// Jill and Leon Story

Leon's reaction was better than I hoped it would be. He didn't offer Jill a shoulder to cry on nor protection, he instead commended her strength and perseverance which was a breath of fresh air for her that she surely needed. He can be a real sweet guy when he wants to be. I grinned through their playful pillow-talk about protection. It was cute and you can see just how happy and relaxed Jill has become.:heart: :aww:

But it appears their mission isn't over yet, and in a way, I'm glad to see there's more at stake here with Lopez. Then there's the phone call referencing China! Ada is the first character that came to mind and really, if it is her, I think for Leon and Jill to ever have a more longer and meaningful relationship, then Leon's history with Ada will need to be addressed eventually. But that's just my opinion, luv. This is ultimately your story and I have adored every single chapter up to this point. I can't wait to read what comes next. :D
